Mood and Tone

When reading "Heart of Darkness," the reader can feel many motions. The mood is dull and mysterious. Now this doesn't mean dull as in boring, but dull as in gloomy or dark. One example is on page 70 from the book, "Don't you know the devilry of lingering starvation, its exasperating torment, its black thoughts, its sombre and brooding ferocity?" The story is full of details that makes the reader really feel dark and makes you wonder what the poor villagers are going through.
The author is able to show that Marlow and many other characters truly seek to find Kurtz. His tone shows that the characters main concern was in finding him. "There was a sense of extreme disappointment, as though I had found out I had been striving after something altogether without a substance" (pg. 78). The author wrote this to show that when the crew thought Kurtz as dead, they were full of disappointment and and lost their drive.

Batter Up!

Batter Up!
by Lucas Szewczyk
Image result for hitting a baseballStep up to the plate
Trusty bat in hand
Keep your eye on the ball
They yell from the stand

A swing and a miss
That was strike one
Wait for your pitch
The Coach says, “Just have some fun!”

The ball whizzes by
That was strike two
I thought that was high
But what can you do?
I’m ready to hit
Feet planted and elbows back
I swung my trusty bat
And surprised I heard a smack

First hit of the season
I made it on base
Cheers roared from my team
And a smile on my face

The poem "Batter Up!" by Lucas Szewczyk tells a little story of a baseball player getting their first hit of the season. Yes I know it may not be the most impressive poem, but is very relatable to anyone who has played baseball or softball. The poem describes what the player hears when they are up to bat and uses imagery to give the reader a picture of what is going on. I can definitely relate to the scenario! I enjoyed the poem.

Funniest Blog Out There!

I really got a kick out of the blog Travel Tales. There are multiple hilarious stories of man named John exploring the world. He writes about his weird and crazy adventures as he goes from country to country, and writes about anything crazy that happens. I know there are probably lots of other blogs out there that are humorous and interesting to read, but this guy seems like a real character. He adds GIFS to his writing to even make his work more entertaining. My personal favorite was the story titled "Blood Sucking Leeches!" Anyone can relate to this story well if they have seen the movie Aliens. I honestly don't care whether you check it out or not; I just thought it was pretty funny and entertaining and thought it deserved to be shared!

Heart of Darkness from first glance

At first glance, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad seems like an exciting novel about a man on a dangerous adventure in Africa. Along the way he supposedly only finds his "dark and evil soul." The only books I usually care for are stories like these where the protagonist goes on an adventure and discovers something great. Hopefully this story will live up to those expectations. I am very excited to get started and find out what he will find.
