Recently I read an article about Ted Cruz and Caitlyn Jenner titled "Cruz takes on Caitlyn Jenner is transgender fight." It talks about how Cruz believes that allowing transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice, opens the door to predators. Caitlyn Jenner, an activist for transgender causes, fights back saying that there would not any molestation of anything of the sort going on.
Now, at first I thought this was a crystal clear issue to me. I sided with Ted Cruz fully 100% at first. He argues that men should not be able to go to the bathroom in the same place as little girls just because they feel like it at that moment. He says he has worked in law enforcement for a long time and has seen some messed up predators and he knows what can happen. However, Donald Trump gave Caitlyn permission to use whatever bathroom she wanted to use in the Trump International Hotel. In a video, Caitlyn is shown coming out of the women's restroom and saying "By the way, Ted, nobody got molested."
Alright here is where my opinion comes in. If I had a young I daughter, I definitely would not want a grown man in the same bathroom as my child. Even if "she" is "technically" now a girl. But I have also seen some men who have turned themselves into girls where I could not tell they were ever a man in the first place. It would be strange to see the man, well I guess actually woman, in the men's bathroom as well. The only solution I have to this is to have a male, female, and a mix bathroom. I don't think there's really a complete way to resolve the problem, but times are changing and things need to be done. I understand where Caitlyn is coming from, but I do think it gives predators a chance to strike. I am curious to hear other people's opinions about this so COMMENT BELOW WHAT YOU THINK AND WHY.

First off I like how you made the "comment what you think and why" bold. I found this article very interesting especially when Caitlyn Jenner stated "there will be no molestation of any sort going on". I honestly do not know which side I am on. I do think once a transgender person has chosen to make the change, they should be able to allowed to use public restrooms that apply to their sex but I do see the point of things being different. I think a women's, men's, and a transgender's bathrooms would be a good start but I also feel wrong for making certain people who decided to make this change for the better, use a separate bathroom. I feel that if they make the change and are now know as a "man " or "women" they should be treated like it. They also decided to make this change for a reason and it is rude to still make them use a separate bathroom, even though they should be known as a man or women.
ReplyDeleteWow, so insightful! I oike how you presented both sides and then stated your opinion and how it still isn't clear. Your solution seems valid to me! Thanks for your perspective.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a crazy topic. I think that no matter what you do your never going to solve the problem fully. Even if you had a mix bathroom I think there will always be a threat to someone. I also am not sure we should add more segregation to society. Overall this is just a very touchy topic and I'm not sure I could choose a side.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job presenting both sides, that was a really nice touch. I have to say I am worried, seeing as there is the possibility of a predator taking this chance to harm someone, but I don't know what the right response would be.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, your a bit too pushy with the whole bolded comment statement. But, I agree with you I definitely wouldn't want a grown man in a bathroom with my small daughter. They should just have 3 bathrooms so everyone will be happy.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the only way to compromise with this issue is to create unisex, single-room bathrooms. That way, no two people will be in the bathroom at a time. However, this style of bathrooms can be way more expensive than the typical male/female, stall-based bathrooms. I can see both sides in this issue. If someone identifies as a particular sex, I can see how they would be upset to find that they couldnt go in the bathroom of their identifying sex. However, as you said, this can open the door to predators and people who are pretending to be transgender.
ReplyDeleteYou did very well at presenting both sides of the argument. I personally feel that if you were born a guy then you should go into the boys bathroom and vice versa end of story but that's just my opinion.
